The United National Party (UNP) is preparing for new generation leadership that would embrace smart politics, Party Leader, Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday. Speaking during the launch of SMART UNP digital drive at party headquarters Sirikotha, Mr. Wickremesinghe said the party and the nation as a whole should be handed over to Zen Beta generation youth in the future. “I am more than 70 years old. There are people here who are more than 70, some are more than 60 and other who are around 50. Time has come for us to think of the generation which has been born after the conclusion of the civil war in Sri Lanka. UNP will have to lead the way in handing over parties and politics to those who are in the Zen Beta generation. Late Prime minister prepared the nation for baby boomers, Late President J. R. Jayewardene prepared the millennial generation. We in the UNP should get ready to handover the reigns to Zen Beta Generation. We will have to move towards smart politics and embrace technologies such as virtual reality,” he said. “We are living in Trump’s world, the world which is also dominated by China which challenges trump. We are also living in an age where our neighbor India emerging as a super power. We have to face these situations,” he added. The party is to soon see a new position which is to be called digital administrator while there will be digital organizers. The Star Link technology drive will also equip Sirikotha with WIFI and digital membership cards
