President Pledges Comprehensive Government Support for Differently-abled War Heroes’ Care and Welfare

President Ranil Wickremesinghe reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing comprehensive support for the care and welfare of differently-abled war heroes. He made these remarks during his participation in the distribution ceremony of electric tricycles for differently-4abled war heroes at the Ministry of Defence headquarters complex in Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte, (09).

The initiative, implemented by the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA), aims to enhance the living conditions of differently-abled war heroes and their families. As part of the first phase of the project, 50 electric tricycles were distributed, representing an expenditure of Rs. 17 million.

This effort underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the well-being and empowerment of those who have served their country.

The President was received by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) on his arrival at the Ministry this morning. During the event symbolizing the handover of electric tricycles, President Ranil Wickremesinghe actively participated in distributing electric tricycles to some differently-abled war heroes. The Ranaviru Seva Authority anticipates that this project will not only provide mobility assistance but also stimulate entrepreneurship among the veteran community.

President Wickremesinghe expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the war heroes who made immense sacrifices to safeguard the unity and freedom of the country. He announced the allocation of funds for the procurement of an additional 75 electric tricycles for differently-abled war heroes, highlighting the government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare. He noted that compared to other nations, the Ministry of Defence of Sri Lanka demonstrates exceptional dedication to the well-being of war heroes.

Following the ceremony, President Wickremesinghe visited the differently-abled war heroes, engaging in friendly conversations and expressing personal interest in their well-being. This gesture underscores the government’s efforts to honour and support those who have bravely served the nation.

Minister of Public Security Tiran Alles, State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon and Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayaka, Chief of Defence Staff Shavendra Silva, Tri Forces Commanders, Inspector General of Police, Chairman of the Ranaviru Seva Authority and senior Defence Ministry officials were also present at the occasion.
