Issue:
A large number of people in this area lack basic facilities, including permanent housing. Is there a plan to implement a program to provide housing and infrastructure for them?
Response:
The last quarter of this year coincides with elections, so starting work this year may not be feasible. However, we have planned to initiate several new housing projects over the next few years.
Additionally, there are plans to significantly develop tourism in this area, alongside the implementation of an agriculture modernization program. These initiatives are expected to bring substantial development to the province in the coming years. Furthermore, we are collaborating with India to develop Trincomalee city and its port. These activities are anticipated to create more job opportunities for the youth of the Eastern Province in the future.

Member of Parliament Mr. Ali Zaheer Maulana,
A program has been formulated to set up a large garment factory in the Eravur Kondakkuda area of Batticaloa district. This initiative aims to generate numerous job opportunities for unemployed youth in the province. Furthermore, we anticipate launching several projects, including additional factories, based on various investments in this region. It is noteworthy that these initiatives were initiated by President Ranil Wickremesinghe during his tenure as Prime Minister in the good governance government.
Eastern Province Governor Senthil Thondaman, State Ministers S. Viyalanderan and Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, along with President’s Senior Adviser on National Security and Presidential Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka, were among the dignitaries present at the event.
